GIS-Mask
Software for the recognition of analog or printed data on paper

Within the beginning of the project "BayFlora-Kryptogamen" in 2003 a solution had to be found for the digitalization of the handmade gridmaps of Dr. Meinunger. Four different symbols could be found on the maps which should be detected by a software. The points werde only 2-3mm wide, and the software should "learn" how to "read" them. The problem was solved by the company "Schindlbeck IT-Consulting".

The programm GIS-Mask identifies forms and puts them to a georeverenced grid (1:25 000 German Topographische Karte). With printed templates the programm could have done the work itself (a solution for all printed elder books, where you do not have a database for it), in our case the templates were so different, that we had to decide by man wether the software dicided right (60 students worked on the atlas). 1,3 Millon data could be detected in this way.
