Dr. Ludwig Meinunger is engaged with the Bryophytes since the year 1962. His profession is atrophysics (phd on changable stars), he worked in the obervatory of Sonneberg (Thüringen, East Germany) till 1989 (fall of the German-German frontiers). He was retired with 55 years, so he decides to map all of Germany together with Wiebke Schröder his companion. 12 years they hiked throu all the german habitats from the north sea to the alps, 7 mounths a year. All data were marked by hand in gridmaps. Dr. Meinunger has contact to all bryologists in Germany, so that he received at the end a lot of data from them, which he collected in his atlas. At the end 1,3 million data. The editor met the authors in 1991 while working on his diploma about the Bryophyte-Flora of Regensburg. Oliver Dürhammer, as a member of the board of management of the "Regensburgische Botanische Gesellschaft von 1790 e. V." (the eldest botanical society in the world), could easily convince the other members of the society to publishe the atlas in the societies own publisher.
